Discussion:
[users] Is repoforge really non-conflicting with CentOS base repo?

Hi there,

at wiki.centos.org you can read:

"The default RPMforge repository does not replace official CentOS base
packages."

But in my opinion it does. For example nagios-nrpe and nagios-plugins
will be available in CentOS base and in RPMForge repo. So a package from
base will be replaced.

Am I wrong or is the sentence above false?

The intention is certainly true that rpmforge (repoforge) aims not to
conflict with packages in the base distro.

yum list nagios\*

doesn't return anything for me on el5 nor el6 (since you don't state
which you are referring to).

Please show where nagios packages are in the base distribution.

Yes we have, I think I was wrong with nagios packages in base. I have
seen packages with .rf prefix and some without, I thought they were from
the base repo, but I think they are from EPEL.

They are. I wrote the last EPEL update for that package, which is
actually now available as nagios-3.5.0. (Just update the version
number and tarball, it's a trivially easy update.

I've also published the tools for the naglite3 package, at
https://github.com/nkadel/naglite3-1.6-srpm, and would love to get
them into Repoforge.....

Nico,
We provide 3.2.3 version. Is the upgrade to 3.5.0 possible? If so, I can
bump the version.

You can always send the pull request. I'd be happy to accept it.

3.5.0 is even more broken than 3.4.x considering various reports, and
contains some changes which might affect all neb modules.
i wouldn't recommend bumping the package unless it's considered safe &
tested.
it's also likely that you need to rework the spec file to make it
actually build.
