Hello,

I installed vlc from rf on a centos 6 x86_64 (fully updated), but it
dies immediately for me.

I'm wondering whether I should investigate on my side or not. Does it
work for somebody?

Thanks,
Nicolas

It works for me. Both stand alone and with a file as argument.

[gsgatlin at localhost video]$ rpm -q vlc

vlc-1.1.13-1.el6.rf.x86_64

CentOS 6.4 fully updated. Hope that helps.

thanks to all for quick answers!
So the problem is on my side. I tried a few things (eg disabled selinux,
yum reinstalled taglib, yum reinstalled vlc) but no success.

Meanwhile I fixed the build issue with the rf xine rpm [*], and it seems
to work fine, so I'm postponing further investigations on vlc. Anyways
this is a laptop that I use only occasionally.

I had problems with the rf version and now use the linuxtech repo
version with no issues.

YMMV

I just installed vlc and it runs but when I try to play anything with H264
it gives me the following error.

[0x7ff908c02dd0] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc
`h264'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

yes, I have had this too and my solution has been to disable the library
with cfengine for our laptop users.

You can fix it like this:

# mv /usr/lib64/libtag.so.1 /usr/lib64/libtag.so.1.disable

and it will work again. It happens regularly, I get messages from cfengine
saying it has fixed it (again), but at least it does not bother me or my
colleagues :-)
