I understand that all packages in the standard RPMforge repository
should not affect packages installed from the distribution's default
repositories. With a fully up to date 32-bit CentOS 5.5 system, I
obtained the following result --

[quote]
[root at GX1 ~]# yum --enablerepo rpmforge check-update
<snip>
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
11 packages excluded due to repository priority protections
Obsoleting Packages
pcsc-lite-ccid.i386 1.3.10-1.el5.rf rpmforge
ccid.i386 1.3.8-1.el5 installed
[root at GX1 ~]#
[/quote]

Something doesn't seem quite right . . .

Ouch, we didn't catch this because the names are different. I will get rid

No.

The update itself is not harmful, but it violates our policy of keeping
the base system packages intact unless user explicitly decides to
replace a base system package with an unsupported update from RPMForge.

Ouch, we didn't catch this because the names are different. I will get rid

I understand that all packages in the standard RPMforge repository
should not affect packages installed from the distribution's default
repositories. With a fully up to date 32-bit CentOS 5.5 system, I
obtained the following result --

[root at GX1 ~]# yum --enablerepo rpmforge check-update
<snip>
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
11 packages excluded due to repository priority protections
